Overstock Furniture & Mattress is in the midst of massive expansion, and the business has found a home in Myrtle Beach.
The company offering name brand furniture at discount prices opened this fall in the Myrtle Beach Mall in the Briarcliffe Acres area, next to Bass Pro Shops and the new Twin Peaks restaurant.
The large retail space was previously a JCPenney store.
The store sells bedroom sets, mattresses, box springs, bunk beds, daybeds, recliners, sofas, sofa beds, love seats, entertainment centers, dining room sets, mirrors and pillows.
Store manager Eddie Daniels said a lot of people get the company confused with Overstock.com, but it is a separate company and its offerings are limited to indoor furniture.
Overstock’s popular brands include Corinthian, Washington, Behold, Albany, Beautyrest, Delta, Crown Mark, Elements, Saatva premium mattresses, and Donco children’s furniture. Floor models are for sale.
“We’re kind of like a furniture warehouse. We have a variety. We specialize in everything,” said Daniels, who moved from an established store in Texas to manage the new location. “Most people know us from our mattresses because we have probably the most amazing prices on mattresses you’re going to find, but we also do have a vast selection of sofas, love seats and sectionals.”
Daniels said Overstock purchases items from furniture stores after they roll over inventory as seasons change and move some products to warehouses.
He said the furniture is sold as is and doesn’t carry a warranty, with the exception of Lane mattresses, which carry 10-year warranties.
Overstock was founded in Russellville, Arkansas and had less than 10 locations prior to a large recent expansion.
Daniels said there are now close to 70 locations nationally, and in 2021 alone five stores have opened in South Carolina, five in North Carolina, two in Georgia and two in Florida. New stores include those in Florence, Charleston and Wilmington, N.C., which is a larger super center. “We’re just popping up everywhere right now,” Daniels said.
Most of Overstock’s products are made in the U.S. and its distributors are in the U.S., so the company has been able to maintain inventory throughout the coronavirus pandemic. “If you keep it in the United States you don’t have to worry about stuff being stuck on a cargo ship in the ocean,” Daniels said.
